The Secret of Haven Manor
The Secret of Haven Manor
Chapter 1:
It was a gloomy afternoon when the gang rode their
bikes over to Cookie's aunt's house. Who lived out at
the far end of town. And promised them a special reward
for helping her clean up her new house that she
brought and was turning it into a B&B
"Wow, this place looks more like a creepy castle
than an old house." Sammy Turtle whistled. As he and the
others got off their bikes
"Yeah, it does look pretty gloomy." Tommy Cub added as
they walked up the driveway
Cookie rang the front doorbell, and the door creaked
as it opened
"Well, hello and welcome to Haven Manor!" Cookie's aunt
smiled as she welcomed them inside
"Hi, and thanks, umm wow." Cookie began
"A bit messy, huh?" Her aunt laughed as they looked inside
the messy living room. That was filled with a whole bunch
of opened and unopened boxes
"I know it looks like a big dump site right now. But in
a few days, it'll be the greatest B&B in all Rocky Shores."
She added
"Don't you mean the only B&B?" Sammy asked in a confused
tone of voice
"That's why it'll be the best one." Cookie's aunt winked
over to him
"Now, why don't I show you to your rooms. Then, after
you finish unpacking, we'll meet in the best room
of the house." She told them
"Which room is that?" Cookie asked her
"Why, the kitchen, of course!" Her aunt laughed. An hour
later, the girls found the boys sitting around
the kitchen table, munching on some chips
"Well, it took you guys long enough. Sammy and I were
starting to think that you guys got lost or
something." Tommy joked
"It's Daisy's fault, I swear she's moving in instead of
just spending the weekend!" Vicky Dragonfly joked
"Very funny, so I couldn't figure out what to bring. What
else is new?" Daisy Penguin shrugged
Chapter 2:
Soon afterwards, they began unpacking boxes
"So, do you think your aunt's going to have the place
ready by the end of the month?" Sammy asked Cookie,
who looked around the room and sighed
"For her sake, I certainly hope so."
Sammy nodded before adding
"My brother told me that it was brave of her to buy
this place. Especially with all the stories attached to
it."
"Oh, here we go." Tommy groaned
"Whatever, dude,
I wasn't going to say that the place was haunted,
but it supposedly has a secret railroad. Hidden inside
of it." Sammy shrugged
They just looked at him with confused faces, waiting
for him to continue. Sammy laughed
"It's not what you're thinking. From what I read on
the internet, a long, long time ago, life wasn't very easy
nor good for certain kids." And their families, they were
either beaten up, bullied, or even sometimes had to leave
their houses just because of the color of their fur."
"Oh wow! That's so sad." Daisy cried
"Totally, so to make a better life for themselves. They'd
secretly run away, which at times wasn't all that easy to
do." Sammy agreed
"Why did they've to run away? Why couldn't they just
move?" Tommy frowned
"Because sadly, they didn't have the same freedom that we
do. And if they were caught, they were seriously punished
or even worse, thrown in jail for many years."
Sammy answered him
"Okay, that's beyond sad." Cookie sobbed. "But what does
this have to do with my aunt's house?"
"Well, according to all the rumors. The very first owners
of this house were not only wealthy, but also very
kind-hearted. And built a tunnel somewhere in this house.
"To help those who need to make a new and safe start
while doing it." Sammy began. Tommy, who had been rocking
his chair back and forth. Suddenly lost his balance and
smashed the back of the chair against the wall
Making a big hole through it
"Whoa!" He cried before he fell, along with his chair, onto
the floor
"Are you okay?"
Both Sammy and Cookie cried before going to help him
"Yeah, I think so, but I'm sorry about the hole in the
wall." He answered
"Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you weren't hurt."
Cookie smiled
"Hey guys? I think there's something in there."
Vicky told them after peeking inside the hole Tommy made
She slowly pulled out a small box and blew the dirt
off the lid
"I wonder what's inside it?" Cookie stated
"Well, we're soon about to find out." Vicky smiled
Chapter 3:
Vicky opened the box, inside was an old map, along with
a worn-out note. Which read:
Blessings, I know that times are rough right now. But hold on
a bit longer, don't give up, for soon you'll be living in a safe,
happy place without any fears. In the meantime, while you're more
than welcome to stay here as long as you like. And when
you're ready to move, just follow the directions on this map
I've also left a few gold coins in hopes of making your journey
more comfortable. Stay safe and happy,
fair winds to you and yours
For a moment, none of them spoke until Tommy broke
the silence
"Oh wow, what else does it say?"
"Don't know, the rest of the letter is to faded to make out."
Vicky shrugged. She took out a gold coin and held it
up, so they all could have a better look at it
"Whoa, I wonder if that's one of the gold coins that they
mention in the letter." Sammy whistled
Tommy rolled his eyes before he snorted
"Duh, of course it is. Why else would it be in there?"
I wonder how rich we're going to be."
"We're not Tommy, you know better that we don't
take things that don't belong to us. " Daisy interrupted
"We should follow the map and see where it leads
to." Cookie happily cried out
"Umm, shouldn't we wait until your aunt comes back
And let her call the cops or something?"
Sammy shrugged
"What's the fun in doing that? Since when do we let
the cops solve our mysteries for us?" Tommy frowned
"Exactly, and this could be our biggest one yet. So, what
do you say, are you in?" Cookie added. They all stared at
Sammy waiting for his answer, who just smiled
"Yeah, I'm in."
Chapter 4:
Soon afterwards, they grabbed a few supplies that they
might need and headed out. Carefully following the
direction on the map until they reached a rocky
ledge
"Wow, how are we going to get down there?"
Daisy asked
"Easy, I'll go down first, then you girls follow. Sammy, you'll
Go last, just in case one of the girls needs help climbing
down." Tommy answered her
Slowly, one by one, they carefully made it down and
continued. Until they found the entrance
"I've got a real bad feeling about this. We should go
back and wait for your aunt." Sammy whined. Tommy patted
him on the back and smiled
"Dude, you always have a bad feeling about everything
So, stop whining and let's go inside. history awaits!"
Chapter 5:
They walked inside the tunnel and began searching
for any sign of hidden treasure. Without any luck, they
were about to give up. When they felt a cold breeze, they
grew more excited when they noticed a giant hole in one
of the sides of the rocky walls
"Oh wow, we found it!" Tommy yelled
"How do you know?" Daisy asked him
"Because I'm staring at it," Tommy replied as he peeked his
head through the hole. They made their way through the
hole. Inside were a few cots, and by the far corner, there
were three large rocks pressed against the wall. On
top of the rocks was an old piece of large wood, on top by
two smaller rocks with another piece of old wood.
With an old small box on top of it
"Okay, Tommy, grab the box and let's get out of here."
Sammy told him
"Me? Why don't you do it?" Tommy frowned
"Oh, seriously, grow up." Cookie snorted before going
over towards it. But as she went to grab the box, the rock
that she was standing on slightly gave way. Causing her
, along with the rest of the stones, come crashing down
onto the floor
"Cookie, look out!" Daisy cried out. And before she
could finish her sentence. A loud crash interrupted
As a few of the rest of the rocks from the ledge fell and
landed right on her right front paw
"Okay, Cookie, try not to move. You girls, stay with her
and keep her comfortable the best you can." Come on
Sammy." Tommy nervously told them before he ran off,
followed by Sammy
They ran out as fast as they could and were about to
head back to Cookie's aunt's house. When they bumped
right into her
"Boys? What in the world are you doing out here?"
She asked frowning
"We'll explain everything to you later. But right now
We've to help Cookie, she got hurt." Tommy cried out
"What? What happened to her? Where is she?"
Cookie's aunt cried. As they ran back, the boys quickly
told her the whole story of what happened and why
they were there
Chapter 6:
"I wish they'd hurry up. Not only is my paw getting
numb, but I'm starting to get cold." Cookie sighed
"That's not all of your troubles, young lady," an angry
voice answered her
"Aunt Bell! I'm sorry." Cookie began sobbing
"Don't cry, Cookie, we'll discuss this later." Her aunt
gently answered her. She went over to see if she could
roll the rock off her paw. But it didn't move
"Cookie, just cried out in pain
"Kids, I need all of your help to push the rock off her
paw." Okay, on the count of three." She instructed
Together, they tried a few times to roll the rock
Slowly, it began to move just enough that Cookie could
Quickly pull her paw out from underneath it. After spending
A few hours at the hospital, they were back at Cookie's
Aunt's house
"You're very lucky that your paw wasn't broken. Only
badly sprained." Cookie's aunt was telling her. "I'm
still very upset with you kids, what if I didn't find you
when I did?" She added, frowning. The gang then repeated
the story of what they found after searching the old
house and the tunnel. Afterwards, Cookie's aunt phoned
the police and the local historian, who was suspicious but
agreed to meet with them the next morning
Chapter 7:
The next day, the gang retold their story to the police
and the historian. Who listened silently in awe
"Oh wow, that's some adventure that you kids went on
I heard all the old stories about the old railroad and
the families that escaped by using them." But could never
prove that they truly existed until now."
The historian smiled. A few days later, the historian gave
them a medal of bravery, and the local newspaper
took their picture and interviewed them for the front page
Later that day, Cookie's aunt treated them to all the
ice cream that they could eat
"I'm going to miss hanging out with you kids."
She smiled
"Us too, Aunt Bell, we had a blast hanging out with you."
Cookie smiled back. "Now, we've a surprise for you."
She added
"Oh no, please don't tell me that you found another
note inside my house." Cookie's aunt groaned
"Very funny, but no, we all decided to give you our
reward money. As a thank you."
Cookie laughed
Chapter 8:
"Cookie, Cookie,"
The sound of her mom's voice startled her awake
"Oh, sorry, sweetie, I didn't mean to wake you. But I just got
off the phone with Bell, she recently bought the old Haven's place
and was wondering if you and your friends." Wouldn't mind
spending the weekend and helping her get it ready for her grand
B and B opening in a few weeks." Her mom explained
"That sounds great, Mom, we'd love to go." Cookie smiled
Cookie went to her room and was about to call Daisy and
Vicky. When her dream popped into her head
"Whoa, wait, did my mom just say that Aunt Bell brought the
old Haven's place?"
"There's no way that it could be the same place. Could it?"
