MIDNIGHT DREAMS
(Music plays as opening credits roll then disappear.) Copyrighted@2010
INT. Mental Hospital Room- Night
(MARY is seen lying on a bed with her hands and feet bound to the bed, she's asleep, when all of the sudden she wakes up screaming in terror. She tries to get up and she starts shaking and screaming. Frantic looking nurses come in and try to hold her down, but she continues to shake and scream. One of the nurses looks out the window of the hospital room to see a doctor run in.)
NURSE 1
(She seems very nervous)
"DOCTOR!"
DOCTOR RILEY
(Moving quickly and yelling instructions to the assistant nurse)
"GIVE ME THAT NEEDLE!" "HURRY!"
(The assistant nurse hurriedly grabs the needle and hands it over to the doctor shaking.)
MARY
(The woman still screaming begins to speak)
"LET ME OUT OF HERE!" "I DIDN'T DO IT I ONLY TRIED TO SAVE HER!" "PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!" LET ME OUT!" "I HAVE TO GO SAVE MY DAUGHTER!"
DOCTOR RILEY
(DOCTOR RILEY inserts the medicine into her I.V.)
"Shhhh...It’s ok Mary, everything is going to be ok now... just relax and calm down.
(He says in a soft, gentle voice.)
(The medicine begins to work and Mary starts to calm down and relax. She glances over to the clock ticking on the wall she makes out that it says 12:00 am. She then relaxes completely and falls into a deep sleep.)
INT. In a Dark Forest-Night
(MARY opens her eyes and finds herself in the middle of a forest the moon was full and it shone in the sky lighting up the area where she stood. She saw a figure move in the shadows her heart started pounding)
MARY
(Stammered.)
Hello? Who... who's there?
(MARY heard laughter it surrounded her. A figure is seen dancing slowly up to her its face hidden by the shadows. Its grin is the first thing she sees it looks like a figure of a small boy. He steps into the light and she stumbles back in horror, He had no eyes. The little boy smiles.)
LITTLE BOY
(He speaks in a weird soft voice that sends shivers down her spine)
“Come play with us Mary, come play."
MARY
(Mary stands frozen in fear; she finally masters the courage to speak. Her throat felt dry)
Who...who... are you?
LITTLE BOY
(LITTLE BOY suddenly comes really fast up to her face smiling.)
It is not who we are, or what we are, it is what we are up to. We are everywhere watching you... haunting the very breath you take....
(He said still smiling.)
MARY
(Freaked out)
B-but,why?
(LITTLE BOY grabbed her arm and started running fast threw the trees, she couldn't keep up she was stumbling and almost falling he finally stopped running and then he let go of her. She had a slimy cold wet bruise on her arm. They were standing at the edge of a cliff he was standing behind her.) (She turned to face him and found herself surrounded)(there was kids with their mouths sown shut and eyes gouged out standing close to her and there was kids with just their eyes gouged out but their mouths weren't sown shut surrounding the 5 that were.) (They started to sing)
CHILDREN
(Together)
"Ring around the rosy, Pocket full of poesy....ashes... ashes... we all fall down...
(And with that her daughter stepped forward and pushed her off of the cliff laughing hysterically.)
MARY
(Falls screaming)
"NATALIA!!!!!!"
INT. EMPTY ROOM-DAY
(She closed her eyes waiting for the impact, but it never came. Instead she landed on something soft. She opened her eyes and realized she was back in her hospital room.) (It was dark in the hospital room and empty except for the bed and a dirty floor. Little light came threw the dusty window.)(She saw something move in the corner.)
MARY
(Squinting)
He...hello doctor? Is that.... You?
(As her eyes adjusted she saw three figures standing in the far left corner of her room.)
MARY
(Mary sat up trying to get a better look.)
Hello? Wha-what's going on? Doctor?
(One of the figures turned slowly towards her it was a slightly taller looking character, it walked slowly towards her and fell on the ground and started crawling towards her, she buried herself in her covers and a hand appeared grabbing her covers. The figure stood up she watched in fear as the figure leaned over her, it was her brothers girl friend. She had disappeared some years ago. She grabbed Mary and yanked her out of her bed.)
MARY
(Frightened now)
AHHH!!!! LET GO OF ME!!!!! PLEASE!!! OWW YOU'RE HURTING ME!!!!!
(The figure threw her to the ground she fell but she didn't land on the floor instead she landed on something soft. A hand reached out of the darkness for her she fell back screaming)
MARY
"GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!"
(She closed her eyes and opened them again)She was in her hospital room she saw her sister Andrea in a chair right next her.
ANDREA
"Shh... it's ok Mary it was just a bad dream." You're ok now.
MARY
(Mary smiled weakly at her)
VOICE
(A voice inside her head)
No, it's not ok. You will never be ok again.
MARY
(MARY'S smile disappears into a look of sadness.)
ANDREA
(Andrea looks at her with concern she then tries to talk to her to try to get her back to normal.)
Did you hear the story I was telling you about? About our brother?
MARY
(Mary looks at her)
No. I don't remember... what were you telling me?
ANDREA
(Reaches over and gently starts petting her hair and speaks to her in a soft gentle voice)
Just close your eyes, and listen.
(MARY closes her eyes and listened. But right after she closed her eyes she fell asleep) (her sisters voice began to fade in and out. She heard it but barely. She was standing in the middle of a restaurant, everybody was casually talking to one another when all of the sudden windows broke and a fire started to spread through the restaurant people started running around in panic trying to get out. Dust was flying everywhere in the midst of chaos she saw a normal little boy standing in the middle of it all just smiling. She ran over to help him.
MARY
(Panicking)
"Come on we have to get out of here the building is on fire!"
( MARY grabbed his hand to help him run.) (All of the sudden he opened his mouth and screamed)
LITTLE BOY
(Screaming)
(His screams sounded like wails it sounded like he was being murdered.)
(Everyone in the room freezes.)(Then all at once their heads moved in her direction.)(Their faces were disoriented and burned. She looked at the screaming boy and his face was the same as theirs. ) (He suddenly turned into ash right in front of her. Everyone began to move at once but instead of running in panic they all moved in towards her grabbing her and scratching her they all yelled at once as they engulfed her.)
All
(Screaming at once)
"MURDERER!!!! GET HER!
(They all surround her biting and scratching her pain is so bad that she closes her eyes and screams.) (She opens her eyes and finds herself back in the hospital bed screaming in pain her whole body shaking uncontrollably. Her sister is standing by the door with a frightened look on her face. Her sister shook with fear as Mary continued to scream and move around her mind going back and forth as the things cover her. The doctor rushes in with a bunch of nurses. Mary is thrashing and moving trying to get free.)
DOCTOR RILEY
(Shouting at his nurses)
"HAND ME THE NEEDLE!"
(He looks over at her sister with a stern look on his face as he injects Mary.)
"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?"
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?"
ANDREA
(ANDREA angrily yells back.)
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT DID I DO? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ONE MINUTE IM TELLING HER A STORY AND THE NEXT SHE JUST STARTS GOING CRAZY SHE WOKE UP SCREAMING!
DOCTOR RILEY
(Finished injecting her watches as she calms down a little and begins to cry.)
(DOCTOR RILEY turns to Andrea)
"What kind of story?"" Tell me!"
Maybe, what you said triggered her to get scared and go back into her fit.
ANDREA
(Looking over to her sister who is still crying begins to tell the doctor in hushed tones what she was telling Mary.)
What I was telling her was a story about our brother....
DOCTOR RILEY
(Briefly interrupts her)
Isn't that the guy who killed all of those children a while back? Including her only daughter?
Andrea (CONT'D)
(Looking at the doctor, irritated, continues)
Yes, That's him. Anyways, He used to be deaf so people made fun of him at school and they misunderstood him and treated him real badly... he eventually started to wish he couldn't see the people so he didn't have to see them whenever they sneered at him. He had a horrible childhood we all did but his was the worse. Our father used to favor him a lot, especially when he was drunk. He would go into his bedroom at 12:00 midnight and Adam our brother used to tell us in sign that he was woken up by monsters every night. We tried to tell our mother but she was to drunk to ever listen. So obviously that had a giant impact on him because he decided to kidnap little boys in the area and kill them in the worst ways he had this sick twisted moral of Hear no evil, Speak no evil, see no evil. That's why he killed the children the way he did by gouging out their eyes and sowing their mouths shut.
DOCTOR RILEY
(Interrupts' her again)
Then Why did he kill Mary's little girl, if boys were his main targets?
ANDREA (CONT'D)
Because, She had seen him carrying a little boy into the forest when she was playing by the creek near her home and he saw that she had seen him. I guess he was afraid she was going to tell people. That's why he showed her mouth shut and gouged out her eyes also. He felt bad, so he gouged out her eyes so she wouldn't see him ever again. The sheriff found the kids spread out and laid in a circle and Poor little Natalia's body lay in the middle of them they found Adam laying on the side of them with a bullet threw his head and on his right arm he had 12:00 carved into it. I'm guessing that he did that to signify when the monster would wake him up.
DOCTOR RILEY
Why, didn't he tell someone?
ANDREA (CONT'D)
Because, nobody would believe him, I once told the school councilor about the incident but they spat in our faces and called us liars, then they called our parents and told them. Our drunken mom screamed at us until she was red in the face and dad beat Mary and me. Then dads visit's to poor little Adam became worse. He would huddle in a little ball on his bed and cry himself to sleep. Until Midnight. That's when the monster came out to play.
DOCTOR RILEY
(Looking sick)
That's sick! No wonder he was so messed up in the head. I would be too if that happened to me.
ANDREA (CONT'D)
(Glances over at her sister)
Adams first victim was a little boy that he had seen in the restaurant he lured the poor little boy away and killed him in the basement. No one even knew. While, the poor little boy was being murdered his parents and everyone else just kept eating and enjoying themselves unaware that the murder had just happened his parents thought the little boy just went to the bathroom. Adam didn't even bother to demolish the boys face. When he was done, he lit a fire in the basement and closed the door behind him and walked into the peaceful setting and left the restaurant. But, he wasn't done yet. He then went around and locked everyone in the restaurant in and when the fire finally spread people couldn't get out and they all burned to death. That's when Adam decided that he would kill more boys to protect them. Adams girl friend Amber had disappeared shortly after the fire. It’s bad enough to lose your husband to a car accident and your brother to insanity but to lose your daughter to the hand of your own brother is just plain sick. That’s probably why Mary is the way she is now, I don’t know if she feels she has nothing else to live for but she has me. (ANDREA glances at Mary)
DOCTOR RILEY
(Shook his head)
I bet you she was murdered. I bet you he killed her.
ANDREA
(glances over at MARY, who slowly closes her eyes. ANDREA sighs)
I don't know.....
(The medicine begins working and MARY falls back to sleep. She hears a loud bang and opens her eyes. She is standing in a forest, and it is pitch black the moon is shining but barely she
hears a loud scream threw the trees and before she knows it her feet are running towards the screams. She runs further into the trees and then stops abruptly. There are two figures ahead of her she hides behind a tree. She sees one of the figures put an object to the other figures head then the figure pulls the trigger. The other figure falls to the ground. MARY puts her hand over her mouth and screams silently. A girl steps out of the shadows. All MARY can see is the girls back she all of the sudden turns whispers something to the other figure. The figure then turns slowly towards MARY, The girl then comes up really fast to MARY. MARY stumbles back horrified.)
LITTLE GIRL
(Smiles creepily she has no eyes. She speaks in a small crackly kind of voice.)
"RUN!"
(MARY'S heart begins to pound hard)
(The figure then begins to run towards Mary the glint of a gun shining in his hand)
(MARY turns around and runs the sound of the murders footsteps behind her. MARY trips and falls over a root sticking out of the ground and she closes her eyes from the pain and the footsteps stop. She opens her eyes and finds that she’s back in her hospital bed. The room is dark.)(A figure moves across her door way into the dark hall. MARY gets up.)
MARY
Hello? Who's there?
(There is a distant sound of a phone ringing. MARY stumbles into the hall and begins to walk towards the sound of ringing, a figure moves behind her. She turns around but there is no one behind her, so she slowly turns back and continues walking down the hall. Two lights on either end of the hallway is flickering she continues to go towards the ringing noise. MARY slowly approaches a desk there are two phones on it. One phone is hanging limply and the other one is ringing.)
MARY
Hello? Is anyone going to answer the phone?
(she looks down at the ringing phone and slowly picks it up)
MARY
"He-hello?"
(A blood curdling scream comes from the phone; MARY throws the phone down and jumps back with a horrified look on her face as the screaming continues. She looks up from the phone and sees a figure standing on the by the desk in the shadows. The figure all of the sudden moves forward and pushes her with a huge force into the filing cabinet. She hits her head and blacks out.)
(she opens her eyes and realizes she’s back in her house, she starts sobbing terrified. She hears pounding on a door she walks slowly towards the sound she shakingly reaches out her hand and turns the knob and opens it she looks down the dark stairs and sees a figure start climbing up the stairs like a spider, she slams the door shut and hears scratching on the door she opens it again and the figure is standing there with its mouth open in a scream and its arms outstretch floating it had hair that was blowing in an invisible wind. The figure had blood coming out of its mouth and a bullet hole out of her right side of her head it was her brother’s girlfriend!)
(A voice echoed it was her daughter’s voice)
NATALIA/DEAD
"Mommy, have you had enough? Are you ready to come home? Come play with us mommy come play."
MARY
(MARY begins to sob)
Y...Yes I am ready... please stop.....
Voice
(Says softly)
Your too lost to be saved Mary. The only way you can be happy is to join us, play with us... you have no life here anymore.
MARY
(wakes up and she's alone in the room, she turns her head and sees that its 9:45 am she then begins calling for a doctor. )
MARY
Dr. Riley? Doctor?
(a nurse pokes her head in threw the door way.)
Nurse 2
Do you need something Mary?
MARY
(Leans her head up to look at the nurse)
Ya... will it be ok If I get taken to the fun room? I just want to visit with some of my friends and look out of the window and see how pretty it is. I love the big window. I am fine now, I promise.
Nurse 2
(Looks at her smiling)
Let me go see if it’s ok with Doctor Riley first. I’ll be right back.
MARY
(Sighs)
"Thanks."
(a few minuts go by and then the nurse comes in with another nurse and they go over to where MARY is lying down and they un shackle her hands and feet. MARY smiles. She rubs her arm with her hand. )
MARY
Man those things are so uncomfortable.
NURSE 1
I know I am sorry that we have to put you in them.
MARY
(smiles)
Oh no, its ok...
(the nurses then lead her to the fun room and she stops and says hi to a few people she knew.)
MARY
(Cheerfully)
"Hey Frank, what's up Johnston?"
Nurse 1
(pulls up a chair by the window. They then sits down Mary.)
MARY
Thanks.
(MARY looks out of the window and sees it's a beautiful day she then gets up and goes over and looks down at the sidewalk bellow there are people walking back and forth. MARY sits back down and looks at at the nurse. )
MARY
(smiling)
Do you mind going and getting me a glass of water?
(the nurse disappears and MARY closes her eyes)
(She opens them and shes standing at the edge of the cliff overlooking the ocean. Her daughter comes up next to her. )
NATALIA/DEAD
Will, you play with us now mommy?
(MARY looks down and smiles)
MARY
(Whispers)
Yes.
(NATALIA/DEAD reaches over and grabs her moms hand and electrical shock goes threw it.)
(MARY opens her eyes and she sees that the nurse is still gone, she then looks around to see if there are any doctors of nurses around then she grabs a metal chair and slams it against the window as hard as she can and breaks it. Echoes and wails fill the air as she climbs onto the window sill. Her mind begins to go back and forth between what is happening in reality to her minds reality. MARY finds herself standing at the edge of the cliff. She then hears laughter behind her she turns around slightly, smiling the kids all began to chant.
DEAD KIDS
"Come on Mary, don't you just want to be happy? Jump and you will be."
(MARY turns around and looks down there is a crowd surrounding and pointing up at her she sees her daughter amongst them. She all of the sudden hears a shout she looks behind her. Dr. Riley is running in what appears to be slow Moe.)
DR. RILEY
"MARY, NOOOOO!!!!!"
(MARY looks down at the water and then takes a deep breath and jumps. She hears laughter and screaming all around her.
VOICE
"That's right Mary now you can be happy now everything will be ok."
(as she falls she has flashbacks she sees her brother kidnap the little boys and has them facing in opposite directions tears streaming down their scared faces. She sees her daughter Natalia sitting in the middle of them cross-legged bound and blind folded she sees ADAM go over to each child and put a bullet in their heads and watches as they fall limply to the ground , then she watches as ADAM comes into the middle where NATALIA is sitting and then he fires. NATALIA slumps over then he goes over to each child and gouges out their eyes and sows their mouths shut. Then he takes out a pocket knife and carves 12:00 into his arm then he shakingly puts the gun to his head and pulls the trigger and then collapses to the side of the children.)
MARY
(Last thought)
(Whispers)
I just want to be happy again.
(THEN ALL GOES BLACK)
MENTAL HOSPITAL ROOM: CONT'D
(an older woman is seen laying in a bed when she all of the sudden wakes up screaming she gets held down and seduced she looks over at the bedside clock and sees that it says 12:00 am.)
(she closes her eyes and opens them again she’s in the middle of a moonlit forest. )(A figure comes up to her from the shadows it's the little boy he then speaks.)
LITTLE BOY
Mommy, will you play with us?
