Magic Pond Wildlife Sanctuary is accepting applications from artists/writers for a renewable 12-month subsidized Guest House residency for one beginning Oct. 1, 2005. Cost is $595. per month (will reduce cost to $495. in exchange for modest caretaking help) plus one half of house utilities and includes a private one-bedroom apartment with kitchen, bath, skylight, and porch overlooking the pond in the middle of our 75 acre wooded sanctuary. Groceries and other conveniences within short driving distance. Sanctuary is smoke/chemical free, five minutes from a 920' ski slope, snow mobile trails and requires environmentally responsible lifestyle.Regional exhibit and/or public reading opportunities are possible and residency includes personal assistance with applying for them. Artist/owner is professional fine art photographer and coach who will volunteer occasional critique if requested. Priority given to the mature applicant with verifiable income and references along with a history of artistic accomplishment who is seeking a secluded Walden-like location that also offers nearby creative support. Will consider renewing residency to provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the right person who might thrive in the northwoods environment and desire a home at Magic Pond.
Qualifications: You will be living in a wilderness environment that includes moose, bear, coyotes and other wildlife that demand respect. Applicant must be a mature, and highly responsibile individual, tempermentally compatible with artist/owner who also lives on-site part of the year. The goal is to subsidize your work by offering this extraordinary location at drastically reduced cost with the hope of providing you with the inspiration and support needed to take major developmental steps over the period of a year or longer. Must have the mental and emotional stability needed to thrive alone in a Walden-like setting. Fitness required for small amount of snow shovelling. Quiet creative pursuits favored over audible ones.
