Why do you like writing?
Shane Taylor: It's a challenge to produce something that could actually be entertaining to read.

When did you start writing and why?
Shane Taylor: I started writing at the age of 18. I found that I could amuse myself and even expand the limits of how I think.

How long have you been writing?
Shane Taylor: 13 years, off and on. Inspiration comes and goes. Sometimes I'll write in large amounts. I have also gone more than a year without writing a single word.

What is the best book you have ever read?
Shane Taylor: The Rum Diary, by Hunter S. Thompson

Who is your favorite author?
Shane Taylor: Norman Mailer

What is the best story you have ever written?
Shane Taylor: I write poetry, but they tell stories too. I have a good one about an office Halloween BBQ party.

What is some advice you would give new writers?
Shane Taylor: The real good stuff cannot be forced. If the words are not flowing effortlessly, put the pen down don't worry about it. It's kind of like a cat stuck up in a tree. You can reach for it all day, without success. But if you walk away and go turn on the baseball game or something, the cat will climb down on its own and jump right in your lap.
