Interview

Why do you like writing?
Rachel Hill: Well, if you don't love writing, it's difficult to explain why you love it. You just do. It's the soul in words. It's a purging of emotions. It's therapy!

When did you start writing and why?
Rachel Hill: I started writing, oh, probably in ninth grade. I started simply because my English teacher inspired me. We had a short story (of sorts) to write and she read it to the class and commented to me on how great I was. Before then, I hadn't even tried, so yeah!

How long have you been writing?
Rachel Hill: I'm eighteen now, a senior in high school, so only three or four years ago.

What is the best book you have ever read?
Rachel Hill: I'm still in the process of finishing these books! Yes, bookS! It's called the Dark Tower. It's a series of seven books, and I'm halfway through the seventh one now! They're by Stephen King (he's cliche, I know) but they are just brilliant! And, contrary to popular belief, NOT scary.

Who is your favorite author?
Rachel Hill: Christopher Paolini! He was fifteen when he wrote his first book! Then, he graduated from high school at the same aga and now, at nineteen, he's an effing millionaire! He's pretty much the biggest inspiration to me.

What is the best story you have ever written?
Rachel Hill: Probably "Home is Where the Heart is." It's the one of the longer pieces I have written, and it's all true.

What is some advice you would give new writers?
Rachel Hill: I would say write from your heart! Even if you're doing a fiction, something totally unrelated to you, MAKE it related to you! If it's just an emotion you felt strongly one time, a life changin event, whatever, USE it! That's what makes great writing.
