Posted - 04/19/2007 : 21:41:36 One hot day in July,1955, my cousin Ronald and I decided to go down to the pond, back of grandpas. We called the two DOGS lying under the bushes and we headed out. This pond was full of fish, frogs and birds. It was very cool from the shade of the old oak tree.
Living in the country meant never having boring day!! We were messing around the waters edge, when I accidently stepped on a yellow jacket's nest. They really became angry and started to take it out on me and the dogs. I started yelling for my cousin to help the "mean little boy" being attacked by these wasp like jackets. He started laughing and yelling for me to wallow in the dirt of the freshly plowed earth. I can never remember someone laughing as hard as he did that day!
my aunt Sarah, who didn't care for my antics, yelled, "thats what you get you "mean little ----! boy!" The dogs saved my life, they started swarming on them. I took off like a greyhound to grandpa Johns all welped up and crying. He applied a special brew that took the stinging out. I can still hear Ronnie laughing!!!
Everytime I went near the pond I remembered the yellow jackets. the memories still sting from the good old days. I had my pride hurt more than anything. Many years ago. zzzzzzzzz The End# "Mean Little Boy" 2007 |
