It sure is nice to have a website such as FREE STORIES , to write short stories for the world. At first I dreamed about becoming famous in writing stories/and having a book published.
Bill Clinton made a comment one time about everybody owes it to their families to write a manuscript about our lived. And have it published. Easy enough, I have had an intersting life. Childhood, Navy, adulthood, death of a child, getting old, grandchildren and almost dying four times with a aneurysm on my aorta and a colon colostomy that went bad.
So eager to get started, I began to write like a woman shopping the day after Christmas. I was and am, learning the trade. If it wasn't for microsoft word to check my spelling and grammer, I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago.
People I know kept encouraging me to write more stories about Pinkerton Hill in the Ozarks of Missouri. After 50 or so stories I went to Wal-Mart to see if I could find the name of a publisher. I would contact them, send a copy of my work, and I would become filthy rich and famous. All my family would be so happy, and move over Samuel Clemens, theres a mean little boy in town!! Move over Huckleberry!!
After a couple of weeks of researching, reality hit me right between the eyes. A common person will not have the opportunity to be famous as a writer. Everything is controlled buy the people who already have the money. Follow the money? Persoanal friends control the magazine businessReminds me of the kids who make the all-star teams in little league. kiss your way to the top baby!!!
I find out there has been other people who have run into the same roadblock before in America,So they thought of a way for the common Joe to succeed in their dreams. Apublishing company for the not so fortunare. Now we can get our books published for a modest 2,000 dollars. They will; give you ideas on how to move the books. yell.right, buy one get one free? moonlight specials, buy one and trade one? What a brilliant bunch of hockey puck!!
Guess what, I am not going to make it folks. But, I don't really give a plug nickle. I enjoy writing about the good old days. I have decided not to buy a new four wheel drive automobile from my writing income. Iam happy to be alive and my health and relationship with god and my family keeps me satisfied.
